Re: Use of the PERL on an acute injury

Dear Don and Eddie Tunney,

I wish to pass along a heart-felt thank you for the use of your PERL during the critical first week of healing of my best buddy, Simon. Simon the Cat

The speed of his recovery from such an extensive wound surprised not only myself, but also impressed the attending veterinarian. I felt this happy ending to a very distressing injury required me to expand on my personal story with the PERL.

In mid July of this year, my cat Simon (a large and friendly 5-year-old, half Siamese) went missing. I knew something was wrong as he had never disappeared before and rarely misses his evening meal. On the fifth day of his disappearance, I had almost given up hope when a feeble scratch at the door announced his return.

Upon opening the door, my delight of his arrival turned to horror as I saw the extent of his injuries. He had a large open gash on his left side and was unable to use his left hind leg.

I took him to my local veterinary hospital for assessment. They said he would have to be put under anesthesia to have his wound cleaned and stitched, and they would have a closer look at his hindquarter at that time to assess the extent of his injuries.Simon with Sutures and Drain Tubes

The following day I picked up Simon from the vet hospital, and received the report on his wound. The vet was concerned about the “cause” of the injury. He said that the gash and leg injury were definitely not the result of an impact injury or the result of a fight with an animal. He felt the wound was the result of a sharp blade like instrument. The hind leg dysfunction was the result of severed spinal muscles. The wound was already 3-4 days old when treated, and required some of the infected tissue to be excised as well as a 12-day course of antibiotics. Simon ended up with a 7-inch incision, with as many stitches on the inside to repair the damaged spinal muscles as he had outside closing the gash. He also required a couple of drain tubes due to the depth and extent of the injury.

PERL Assisting Simon the CatOver the first week of healing, I used the PERL for 7 days using Banks 21 and 25. Simon was not bothered by the light and sound from the PERL, in fact he seemed to instinctively stay near it as it ran. The only exception was around 10000 Hz when his ears were back and he looked a bit annoyed. Within 3 days, his energy was improved, his appetite returned, and I could see he was looking much more comfortable. The drain tubes were removed and the vet was pleased with progress so far. After 2 weeks, he remained infection free, his mobility was noticeably improved, and the stitches were removed. Again the vet commented on the progress of his healing.

Today, it has been 1 month since his injury. Simon’s incision has almost completely healed. His hind leg strength and mobility are about 75% of his usual. He appears pain free, and his previous playful and affectionate attitude has returned. Simon the Cat showing incision almost healed

I cannot thank you enough for your support and the use of your technology. I know without a doubt it has contributed to the speed and success of his recovery.

I have included pictures to show you the extent of his injury and the progress I have witnessed. Please feel free to share them and this letter with your clients as proof of the power of the PERL to promote positive changes to the sick and injured.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,
RQ and Simon the Cat
